I just had my first baby in December of 2024 and during my pregnancy, I thought to myself, “wow, being home for 3 months? I am going to get through SO much of my backlog!” WRONG. Not only, one month postpartum, have I read very little, I have DNF just about every book I have read this year for one reason or another. Now its February and I’m just starting my new blog out but I also just finished setting up my nursing reading station that I didn’t think I would really need. Here are the top 10 things I bought so I can read while nursing. ( in no particular order)
- My Breast Friend – This pillow is great for nursing, it keeps my baby on a firm surface and once he’s eating, it frees up my hands for the most part since I don’t have to hold him up
- My Kindle – my e-reader is one of my favorite tools but it never can beat a physical book. However when it comes to nursing, it doesn’t require me to turn the pages, making it my go to nursing companion. Plus, it’s back lit so it makes those midnight feedings just a little easier.
- A book stand – Yea, I ended up buy a book stand so that I can read physical books while nursing… totally worth it for how many physical books I own.
- Reading light/night light – I found out real fast that the night light for night feedings was absolutely not bright enough for my set up. the only place I could put it was behind the book stand and blocked the light so I quickly ended up buying a clip on reading light.
- Owlet Dream Sock – This is an odd man out as it for the baby but brought me SO much peace of mind while I was reading in a different space then baby as it would would alert me to anything that was happening to him. If he was awake, if his heart beats dropped, if his O2 level dropped, or if his heart was racing. It also keeps track of baby’s sleep and wake cycles. The only bad thing I will say is that it is expensive and even more so if you get the edition with a camera and the companion app has the audacity to have a pay wall for *pro* features. Dicks.
- A big water bottle with a straw (and bookish stickers) – Breast feeding ain’t easy. Its exhausting and taxing and takes a toll on your body. Breast milk is 85% water and that water doesn’t appear out of thin air. While feeding I get so thirsty that I was chugging 16 oz water bottles after every feeding. Ended up getting a bigger water bottle WITH A STRAW so I wasn’t spilling water on my babe. Make sure you pick up some bookish stickers too to decorate your bottle.
